Ten Happy Vocaloid Songs

Vocaloid songs aren’t all horror, despite what venturing into the fandom might indicate. There are songs that aren’t meant to give you nightmares or want you to delve into the lyrics and dissect it. These songs tend to be upbeat and fun to listen to, and this is what my guidelines are for “happy songs”.

These songs are ones you can listen to without really needing to examine the lyrics. Sometimes the lyrics are deeper than I might’ve thought, but these songs are mostly songs to uplift the listener. I guess the best comparison I have are pop songs; they both are hits you listen to without really digging into the lyrics.

As always, there will be no songs used in previous lists (except my “favorite songs” list), and I’ll have links to the official uploads of the songs.

10. Electric Angel (feat. Hatsune Miku) by Yasuo-P

This song is not by Rin Kagamine and Len Kagamine. However, there is a popular cover featuring these two Vocaloids. As for this song, it’s about how Miku wants to transmit her feelings for her owner. It also shows how she learns to be human through her owner. I just think this song fits something happy and upbeat, and it also does not have this weird underlying horror hidden behind a happy sound.

9. Rin Rin Signal (feat. Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len) by Signal-P

It’s cute. It’s a cute love song. Rin tries to show her love through her “Rin Rin Signals” (haha, see what Signal-P did there?) to Len. It’s a fluffy song about what seems to be young love, which is cute and adorable without any of those darker sides with either some dark secret or more mature themes. The only song I can think of off the top of my head like this is “Melt” by ryo.

8. I Can Take Off My Panties (feat. Kagamine Rin) by Chom-P

The title is humorous, and it makes me smile. But what makes me feel happy (and a bit nostalgic) is that Rin thinks of herself as an adult and so she can “take off her panties” like other adults. It reminds me a bit of those teenage years where I thought of myself as mature as an adult, much like Rin does. However, the mental image of adults “taking off their underwear” makes me giggle (or cringe, depending on the adult.)

7. 1, 2 Fanclub (feat. Kagamine Rin, GUMI) by Mikito-P

Honestly, this one hits close to home because this is about two fangirls who started to learn a foreign language because they were fans (yes, I started learning Japanese because of anime.) However, these two are so innocent about their love for China that it comes across as something cute instead of creepy. I can’t help but sing along and move along with the song.

6. We are POP☆CANDY! (feat. Hatsune Miku) by Runo

The only part of this song I remember is Miku cheerful voice singing, “We are pop candy!” I also remember the video, in which we see a cute version of Miku. The art style and the way Miku is portrayed helps to make it seem like a cute, happy song. It just seems like an upbeat song meant for all types of people, from what I see in the lyrics.

5. Setsuna Trip (feat. GUMI) by Last Note

This song may also be known as “Momentary Trip” or “Instant Trip” (although I’ve never seen the song referred to as either in recent memory.) However, “Setsuna Trip” is about a girl who wakes up and has a trip. It’s bright and cheery, and the first part I remember is “ah, mouguitar!” said with enthusiasm. GUMI is so cheery in this song that I couldn’t help but put this song on this list.

4. Heart a la Mode (feat. Hatsune Miku) by Deco*27

This song is surprisingly light-hearted for Deco*27, since he generally does darker songs. However, it also seems to fits into a type of song I’m finding through this list that I like; it’s a cute love song that doesn’t seem adult in nature. It also seems to be a song that I should have looked into before making this list.

3. Strobo Nights (feat. Hatsune Miku) by kz

This song makes me think of Christmas. But that might be through how I found it (a group covered it for Christmas.) It’s an electronic song with lyrics that seems deeper than what I would assume would come from kz. However, it also seems like your generic cute love song, which is what caught my attention. There are hints to something that’s sadder in the lyrics, but the tone of the song, for me, overpowers that.

2. Gradually Getting Faster (feat. Hatsune Miku) by 40m-P

One thing you should catch on to is that the song gradually gets faster and faster when Miku sings, “dan dan hayaku naru” and slower when she sings, “dan dan osoku naru,” which means she’s following her own lyrics (“slowly getting faster” and “slowly getting slower” respectively.) This song is just about Miku’s day, it seems, because the ending is about her going to sleep (like the end of the day.)

1. Viva Happy (feat. Hatsune Miku) by Mitchie M

First, I would like to point out that the name has “happy” in it. Second, it’s a song meant to uplift you when you’re down. Or, at least, it has advice for the you that’s sad. I just feel like Miku’s voice sounds cheerful in this without being too obnoxiously high-pitched, which is a complaint many have about Miku, myself included. The video is also bright and vibrant, which helps convey that happy feeling. Also, this was the song I was thinking of when I thought of this list idea.
